    一、前言
    遂川，古称“龙泉”。夏商时期为古扬州地域南境，秦属九江郡，汉属豫章郡庐陵县。东汉建安四年（199年）始立县制，为遂兴县。三国吴嘉禾四年（235）改为新兴县。南唐李璟十八年（960年）设置为龙泉县。1914年改为遂川县，沿用至今。在遂川这块历史悠久、富饶肥沃的土地上，在处县城东北五公里遂川江北岸的平原上，居住生活着中华胡氏大家族的一支，新林胡氏。
  新林胡氏源于古庐陵之值夏，系出霸公。自霸公十四世孙禾疑公率子斋公（字克己）从庐陵值夏徙居龙泉新林肇基以来，历宋、元、明、清，至当代，经二十八代之旷世久远，以新林村落为中心繁衍传播，已为大族，人口逾4000余人。
    二、胡氏历史久远，人文蔚蔚。
  根据《史记》和汉代刘沈《吕梁碑》等历史资料的记载，胡氏的起源可以溯源到远古时代。其远古世系为：黄帝—昌意—颛顼—穷蝉—敬康—勾望—蟜牛—瞽叟—舜—商均。夏禹即位后，商均被封于虞（河南虞城）。数十传至阏父（又称曷父）时，担任周朝的陶正，管制陶务。《左传》记载周文王对阏父十分赏识，将元女大姬许配给阏父之子妫满。周武王克商后，妫满被封爵于陈（河南宛丘，今河南淮阳市侧），以奉舜帝之祀。满公因弥年寿考，谥曰胡，为周之赐姓（《左传•昭公八年》记载：“胡公不淫，故周赐之姓，使祀虞帝。”周武王命他继承虞舜帝的正统。他选贤任能，扬善罚恶，励精图治，使陈国强盛多年。妫满死后，谥号为陈胡公，故又称胡公满。于是胡公满成为胡姓得姓的开山祖。其子孙有以其谥号为姓者，称为胡姓。陈胡公亦被后人尊为胡姓的得姓始祖）。从胡公满而下，历25代君，享国589年，近6个世纪。公元前479年，湣公（又曰闵公）被大夫庆父所弑，周天子名下的封国—陈国也为楚惠王所灭，传承600年的陈国历史由此而终。湣公之子衍，由陈徙于阳武户镛乡落籍繁衍。衍公长子琏，领爵姓陈。衍公次子璵（字伯奇）领谥姓胡。胡氏自秦汉以降，名人辈出，史不绝书，其间有胡建、胡质等名昭青史。
    胡氏传至唐末，有胡赟先居于金陵，后一度迁居长沙。五季时，胡赟之后胡公霸任吉州刺史，后仕宗，累赠庐陵郡开国侯，因喜芗城之地，遂家居值夏，衍为值夏胡氏。
    三、新林胡氏系出霸公，源于值夏。
    新林胡氏源出庐陵（今吉安）值夏，系南唐吉州刺史霸公的后裔。霸公之后，历胜公、雄公、茂公、湜公、琏公、恺公、载公、铨公、泳公、木规、火享公、坦公至十四禾疑世公，主要居住生息于庐陵值夏之地，其族以忠义行世，诗礼传家。其间文人志士彪炳史册，有南宋著名文学家、政论家胡铨（九世），因以力主抗金，反对投降而名动一时；有6岁能背《春秋》，记忆力过人的胡泳（十世）；有官至工部、兵部尚书的胡木规、胡木矩兄弟（十一世）。名流之辈，代代不乏其人。南宋庆元元年（1195年），周必大在为胡昌龄写的墓志铭中写道：“江西多名士，吉（州）为冠，自古言之，庐陵胡氏为大族，群从数百，多通经、工文章、守礼典”。
    北宋中后期，随着社会的稳定和经济的发展，胡氏为寻求更大的家族生存和发展空间，遂出现了以值夏为中心迁居各地而各自发展的态势。霸公十四世孙禾疑公率其子斋由值夏徙于位于古龙泉遂川江北岸平原的新林，并以新林为中心开基发展。
    四、新林胡氏，历经百年，衍为大族。
  自霸公十五世孙斋公肇基新林后，胡氏在新林这块民风淳朴、富饶美丽的土地上繁衍生息，历百年而不衰，衍为大族，房支甚众、人口甚多。
  从十五世斋公至十九世云甫、明甫、山甫时期，分支及迁徙较少。之后随着人口的增多，为寻求发展空间，便逐渐有了分支和迁徙。根据新林胡氏族谱的记载，新林胡氏的主要分支和迁徙情况如下。
  （一）以云甫支系为代表的东城房的派衍与迁徙。

  1、从敬公随父徙居辽东，其后居住派衍不详。
  2、从吉公生在潮、在源、在宽、在明（二十三世），其后衍为新林社头德本堂、桂玉堂、大基头、鹭溪坑等房支。
